How to Make Mac ‘n’ Cheese Donuts
Bake at 350 F for 20 minutes. You need to bake the donuts before frying them or they won’t hold their donut shape.
Serve piping hot. For extra fun, top the mac ‘n’ cheese donuts with extra cheese powder from a mac ‘n’ cheese box or homemade nacho cheese powder.
As far as I can tell from an extensive Google search, this is the first fried mac ‘n’ cheese donut in recorded history (I did see baked mac ‘n’ cheese donuts.). So, if you spy my donuts alongside deep fried cupcakes and cupcakewurst at state fairs, let me know. I want royalties, baby, or at least photos. :)
Mac ‘n’ Cheese Donuts
- 3 cups cooked mac 'n' cheese - from the box is fine
- 3 large eggs
- vegetable or peanut oil for frying
- Chill cooked mac 'n' cheese in the refrigerator for a few hours.
- Preheat oven to 350 F.
- Food process mac 'n' cheese with 3 large eggs until you get a mac 'n' cheese mush.
- Spray the cavities of a donut pan with non-stick spray (very important!) and fill them with mac 'n' cheese mush - all the way to the top.
- Bake for 20 minutes. You need to bake the donuts before frying them or they won't hold their donut shape.
- Leave the donuts in the pan to cool to room temperature.
- While the donuts are cooling, heat fry oil to 350 F in a fryer or deep skillet.
- Remove donuts from pan and fry for about two minutes on each side or until each side is lightly browned.
- Serve piping hot.
