Easy Dairy-Free Chocolate Frosting

Watch out: once you try it, this frosting might permanently overthrow your current chocolate buttercream to become your new favorite frosting.  

How to Make Dairy-Free Chocolate Frosting

To make this frosting, simply soak cashews overnight to soften them.

Then, blend the cashews with water, a touch of brown sugar, and cocoa powder.  

The frosting will be thick enough to make a loose swirl and it spreads really well. 

Keep it refrigerated for up to 5 days and bring to room temperature before serving.

  • 3 cups unsalted cashews soaked overnight in a bowl of water
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder


  • Blend all ingredients until smooth.
  • Pipe or spread on anything and everything!


The frosting is not overly stiff. If you prefer a stiffer frosting, use less water.
