My mind is officially blown! I can’t believe how pretty a pie crust made from potato chips can be – plus, potato chip crust is so easy to make!
If you peek over the potato chip pie crust rim in my photo above, you may be able to tell that the pie in the photo is a chocolate pie (it’s my PMS chocolate potato chip pie). However, potato chip pie crust could also work will with banana cream pie or caramel pie or many other pies – share your ideas in the comments!!
After baking, the chips on the bottom of the pan will no longer be crispy. They will form together into a potato mass that is a strange hybrid between mashed potatoes, pie crust, and potato chips – sweet, salty, and satisfying. The chips along the rim of the pie stay crispy. If your pie recipe calls for baking on high heat, be sure to check on the rim chips and, if needed, cover them with foil to prevent burning.
How to Make Pie Crust From Potato Chips
Before sharing the recipe, I need to give a huge shout out to Oh Bite It. My potato chip pie crust recipe was inspired by Oh Bite It’s Potato Chip Pie. Their potato chip pie is a savory pie made with lots of cheese and described as potatoes au gratin on steroids – totally worth trying! My pie crust is designed for sweet pies.
I have not tried this pie crust with every pie filling or every brand of potato chips. When you try the recipe, please leave a comment with how you used the crust and your feedback. Your experience will help others who want to experiment.
