Decadent Dark Chocolate Cinnamon Butter

Chocolate Butter

We all love Nutella (chocolate hazelnut spread), but why does spreadable chocolate have to involve nut butter?  Why not make chocolate butter with decadent, creamy cow’s milk butter?  Sorry nuts, we don’t need you anymore!  Deep dark chocolate and spicy cinnamon mixed with salted butter yields a chocolate spread that will be your morning toast’s new best friend.  The chocolate butter has no added sugar and you won’t miss it.  It’s all about the chocolate flavor!

Dark chocolate cinnamon butter is so simple to make, which is a good thing – once you serve it, the requests for chocolate butter won’t stop!

Moms Make a World of Difference

You can use any chocolate or cinnamon in this recipe – I’ll never know.  But, I want you to consider using Fair Trade products.  This year, Mother’s Day and World Fair Trade Day fall on the same weekend.  Sometimes it’s easy to forget that women in other parts of the world don’t have the same rights and freedoms that we have in the United States.  Did you know that the Fair Trade certification is an important mechanism for protecting and empowering women in agricultural communities around the world?  In addition to freedom from harassment and other social requirements, Fair Trade certification ensures that women have a voice, a vote, and a leadership role in their communities.  You can visit Fair Trade’s site to learn more about the women of Fair Trade and to sign a Mother’s Day card that will be distributed to moms in Fair Trade farming communities around the world.

I used two Fair Trade ingredients to make this dark chocolate cinnamon butter:

Guittard, 70% Bittersweet Cocoa Baking Bars, Semi Sweet, 6oz Package (Pack of 4)

Guittard makes some of my favorite chocolate.  When I was baking at my mom's in NY last month, I shopped at three different stores until I found this chocolate to use (this was before I knew it was Fair Trade certified).  I don't settle for mediocre chocolate in my baking.  Now, I feel even better about using it.

FairTradeBrunch

This year, Fair Trade USA is hosting their first Fair Trade brunch.  It’s a Pinterest party that will be full of Fair Trade brunch ideas for Mother’s Day.  Don’t worry, I’m not suggesting that you just make butter.  The party starts on May 1 (my birthday!!) and on that day I’ll share the recipe that I used this butter on and share the link to the party for more ideas.

Mmm! This sounds awesome! I can’t have Nutella since I’m allergic to nuts, so I’m excited to try this! Thanks!

I have a feeling I’m either going to be profusely thanking you or cursing you after I make this recipe. You’re making it too easy for me to replace my butter on toast in the morning with chocolate butter on toast. Now that I think about it, no extra sugar, plus the antioxidants of dark chocolate means I’m thanking you. Thank you in advance–thank you thank you thank you for this recipe.

This sounds delicious and so easy to make! Vegans could substitute coconut margarine or coconut oil for the butter. The margarine is especially yummy and reminds me in some ways of the taste of butter! There is also another vegan margarine that tastes remarkably similar to butter. Just wanted to give some options for our vegan friends. (You can get vegan chocolate bars as well)
